Tansen is an hour drive from the east-west highway at Butwal and lies
on the Siddhartha highway leading to Pokhara. Regular travel services
are available from Kathmandu, Bhairawa, Butwal, Sunauli, Pokhara and Bardia.
The closest airport is at Bhairahawa, 60 kilometres to the south.

Kathmandu
Passing
through Narayanghat/Chitwan and Butwal
Road:
300 km, 8-10 hour journey; daily direct bus service - Day Bus: 7 am; Night
Bus: 5 pm; departures from Balaju New Bus Park
Air: Nearest airport to Tansen is at Bhairahawa, 60 kilometers to the
south; daily flights; There is a regular bus service from Bhairahawa -
change buses at Butwal for Tansen.
From Pokhara
125 km, 5-8 hour
journey; daily local bus service - 7am departures; also the (Sunauli)
tourist coach will take you to nearby Bartung. From there transfer by
jeep or the local bus to Tansen (4 kilometers).
From
Butwal
40 km Local bus service: 2 hours - departures every 40-60 min; direct
bus service: 1 hour - departing between 2 - 3 pm
From
Chitwan
There are two possibilities for getting to Tansen. From the National Park,
make your way to Narayanghat. From there you can catch the Kathmandu to
Tansen bus which arrives at Narayanghat Pulchowk at around noon; duration
4-5 hours. You may also take one of the several buses to Butwal; duration
2-3 hours. From Butwal you can change for a bus to Tansen.
From Sunauli, Bhairahawa and Lumbini:
Tourist coach from Sunauli to Pokhara can provide drop off at Bartung,
nearby Tansen, with jeep or local bus transfer to Tansen.
There are regular local buses between Butwal and Bhairahawa, which is
the closest bus station to Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha.
From
Mahendranagar
Direct bus service from Mahendranagar to Kohalpur: departing at 3 pm.
From Kohalpur, daily buses go to Butwal, where you need to transfer to
a bus for Tansen.
